The following are some of Mason County's regular ham radio events and happenings
throughout the year.
EVENT LISTING
ARRL Field Day! -
The all time
ham radio classic special event and contest, Field Day causes tens of thousands
of hams in the US and Canada to go outdoors with their radio equipment for an
entire weekend. Picnics, training, tents, generators, wires in trees, and
mosquitoes make for a great time. You won't want to miss this one. Held the
last weekend in June
Mason County Fair -
Our
County Fair held the last weekend of July and puts us in front of the
public. We offer free Radiograms to the public, which are routed from the Fair
via packet radio to a local NTS station. Hams also assist with roving patrol of
the Fairgrounds.

Bicycle Races -
In July and August, these three
different bike races afford us a fun and relaxing way to serve the public, using
ham radio along the parade route for checkpoints and safety. Each race is also a
fundraiser for a charitable cause.
Simulated Emergency Test (SET) -
This important event is a drill
exercise to test the communications readiness of all ARES units. The test occurs
around the first part of October, but can be anytime September through
October.
Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) -
This is where the Boy Scouts of
America can meet with other Scouts from all over the country and with Boy Scouts
from all over the WORLD, via amateur radio. The setting can be from a home
station or out in the field, much like field day. Held the third weekend in
October.
