The Salvation Army, for more than a century, has fought to ease human suffering wherever it is found. We have cooperative agreements with many other agencies, to include the Amateur Radio community, to support and provide relief efforts during emergencies and disasters.

The purpose of the Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) is to train and acquire personnel skilled in emergency communications supporting Salvation Army operations in local, regional and international disaster situations.
